Eureka Privacy Policy
Eureka is made by John Maguire. It doesn't collect any data. It talks only to your camera, over the camera's own Wi-Fi. It has no accounts, ads, analytics or crash reporting, and it sends nothing to me or anyone else unless you choose to email me.
What stays on your phone
- Saved cameras: each camera's network name, Wi-Fi password and model, so you can reconnect without typing the password again.
- Photos you download, saved to your phone's photo library.
- Your settings and a record of your downloads.
- A short diagnostic log of recent app activity, such as connection attempts, failed downloads and crashes. It may include the names of camera networks nearby, but never the names of other Wi-Fi networks.
None of this leaves your phone through Eureka. If Android backup is turned on, Android may include Eureka's data, such as your saved cameras and their Wi-Fi passwords, in your phone's backup or when you move to a new phone.
Permissions
- Location: Android requires it before an app can list nearby Wi-Fi networks, which is how Eureka finds your camera. Eureka never uses it to find where you are.
- Notifications: to show download progress and results.
- Wi-Fi and network access: to connect to your camera.
Feedback emails
"Get help" and "Send feedback" open a draft email to me in your email app. To help me diagnose problems, the draft includes details such as the app version, your phone model and Android version, your cameras, your Wi-Fi, location and VPN settings, which permissions Eureka has, and the diagnostic log. Nothing is sent unless you send it, and you can read, change or delete any of it first.
I use what you send only to reply to you and to fix problems in Eureka, and I don't share it with anyone. Email me if you'd like your messages deleted.
Google Play
Google Play handles purchases and app updates, under Google's privacy policy.
Children
Eureka isn't directed at children under 13, and it doesn't collect information from anyone. If a child has emailed me, let me know and I'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, I'll post the new version here with a new effective date.
